In California most state parks are open on most holidays. Check local listings

There are lots of restrictions depending on the park. All must be on a 6' leash

All 50 states have state parks, and some have state forests. These are also public lands. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management also manages public lands. Your local county or city likely has parks and greenways which are managed for the benefit of the public. (quoting from outward bound here)

Most State parks have some sort of sleeping option. Tent Camping, RV, Trailer, Yurt, Cabins, lodges, hotels... If you can't sleep there the hours are most likely sun up to sun down.
